Pursuit of stolen vehicle results in fatal car accident

| Apr 8, 2016 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Car accidents take place in the Seattle area for a variety of different reasons for it. No matter how it occurs, a crash can lead to significant medical expenses and injuries that often prove fatal. These accidents can happen without warning and can sometimes occur when there has been a crime committed and a suspect is attempting to flee from law enforcement.

One such incident that led to the death of two drivers stemmed from a carjacking and a subsequent police pursuit. Not long before 11 p.m. on April 6, three armed people stole a Honda Accord from its driver. At around 2 a.m. the next morning, a law enforcement officer spotted the vehicle with one man driving it. The officer followed the Honda and called for backup to assist in the pursuit.

As more law enforcement officers joined the pursuit, the first officer turned on her overhead lights and tried to get the Honda to pull over. The driver did not stop and attempted to flee at a high rate of speed. During the chase, the Honda crashed into another vehicle being driven by a male. Both drivers were killed in the car accident. Upon investigation, police found a gun in the Honda.

This incident shows the randomness of a fatal accident. Those who lose loved ones in fatal motor vehicle accidents are often faced with adverse financial consequences in addition to their grief. They may want to have the assistance of an attorney in pursuing compensation for their losses through a wrongful death lawsuit. When the driver who caused the accident is also killed, the lawsuit can proceed against the at-fault motorist’s estate.
