It is not often that you get the roadways to yourself in Issaquah, Washington. Generally, you have to share the roads with other drivers and certain times are busier than others.

Driving in heavy traffic comes with unique risks that warrant closer analysis. Why is driving in heavy traffic so dangerous?

Tempers can flare

If someone is already running on a tight deadline, then a traffic jam is only going to add to their stress. Many people develop coping mechanisms to deal with driving-related stress, but others simply do not have these.

Heavy traffic can bring out the worst in people, and other road users may start taking risks to beat the traffic. For instance, someone may decide to perform a dangerous U-turn, as they try desperately to find another route. Others may seek confrontation by blowing their horn or even exiting their vehicle to direct their anger at someone. This type of aggressive driving behavior places you at serious risk of injury.

Distracted drivers

When traffic comes to a standstill, people often view it as a time to check their cell phones, email or grab a bite to eat. Sometimes, road users simply drift off and pretend to be elsewhere. In other words, drivers become distracted

Traffic can get going again at any second, and even when most cars around you are stationary, there are still many potential hazards. A brief lapse in concentration, especially in heavy traffic, can result in accidents that inflict catastrophic injuries.

You have a right to utilize the roadways across Washington in safety. If you have suffered an injury due to someone else’s negligence, make sure you check what legal options are open to you.
